Party pieces (final)

Thank you to all authors who sent me their work for the blog. The final two contributions are from Zoryana and Mike: a love song and a poem. See for yourselves.

Rain, rain,

Keep him safe,

Bless his days,

Help him find his place.

He is no longer mine,

Since he went away,

Bless his days,

Help me forget his face.

Rain, rain,

Keep me sane,

Soothe this pain,

Help me forget his name.

I am no longer mine,

Since he went away,

Soothe this pain,

Help me forget his name.

Rain, rain..

“The Thames Estuary, 1965”

A shore of sandy stones and shells –

The sea a blue of lapping waves.

A shoal of boats and bobbing gulls –

The sky so clear, no danger here.

The tide returns, the water swells

As currents weave amongst the coves.

The children swim, three boys, two girls

In swirls which sweep them out too far.

Huge banks of clouds form wispy curls

As if to warn of watery graves.

The thunder groans with mighty growls –

A rod of lightning rends the air.

The children’s cries are slowly drowned

By winds which stifle every sound.

Five died that day near Shoebury Nore

As Nature claimed her rights once more.
